Shauna is a former Youth Minister turned lawyer. For her, the pursuit of justice is an act of faith. She is a gifted linguist who understands the relationship between language and power, and how language is used, often counterintuitively, within existing structures of church and state to maintain exploitative imbalances of power. She is an outspoken activist, standing up for the rights of women, children, and people marginalized because of their racial, gender, ethnic, or religious identity. She gives voice to Truth and sheds light upon actions, processes, and procedures that can divert people’s own pursuit of Truth.
Shauna offers her perspective as a lawyer and a Christian to the work of justice. She is skilled at finding the common ground between common sense, common law, and human compassion.
Shauna believes that seeking justice through common ground offers a practical way to understand Canadian law, how legal systems work in general, and how church and state are not as separate as we might think. She knows that the formation of the Christian church in Canada and the formation of our Canadian legal system are intricately linked, how they share roots and language which can perpetuate obstacles that interfere with accessing justice - both in the Court and in our lives.
“When we meet on common ground, we open the possibility of ending the tyranny of extremes - between idolizing power structures or doctrines, and the abject denial of God in our everyday lives.”
- Shauna Gibbons
Seeking Justice demands that we move beyond understanding, or misunderstanding, into Justice.
Kelsey is a passionate Anthropologist with a gift for cross-cultural communication.
For her, justice is found in the meaningful acts of building community - gardening, raising children, cooking fabulous meals, and understanding how language and science impact our daily lives – acts that we all can share, regardless of gender roles or other human constructs intended to divide us. She is devoted to the village, caring for others like family. She volunteers her time as a community league board member planning events, from weekly fireside chats and streaming yoga classes to huge neighbourhood gatherings with fun for the whole family.
Kelsey is a registered yoga and prenatal yoga instructor, avid naturalist, youth soccer coach, and proud mother of 3. She brings her passion for media, communication, and her photography. Through her diligent support, social media posts, event planning, and online design, she nurtures the logistics of our To Seek Justice community into a secure place where we can all vision and inspire.
